Yorme announces presidential bid

Republika

Manila – Mayor Francisco Domagoso (“Isko Moreno” as he is more popularly called) has finally jumped into the bandwagon.

In austere rites at the Baseco compound where he used to roam around as a garbage collector during his youth, Moreno, who is with the Aksyon Demokratiko party, last week formally announced his much-anticipated decision to join the presidential derby in the May 2022 national elections.

For now, Moreno, 46, is running against Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Senator Bong Go (who is still dilly-dallying in accepting the nomination of the PDP-Laban’s so-called Cusi wing).

Moreno’s vice presidential running mate is Dr. Willie Ong, a highly-respected health advocate and social media influencer who allegedly has a following of 16 million on Facebook.

During his brief address, Moreno vowed to make the battle against the deadly Covid19 disease, which has so far claimed some 37,000 lives, as the centerpiece of his campaign agenda, and also the elimination of systemic corruption in government which he said is the main cause of poverty in the country.

Moreno, a former movie actor and hospitality industry worker in Japan, rose to national prominence in 2019 when he resoundingly trounced incumbent Mayor Joseph Estrada, a former Philippine president, to become mayor of Manila.
