Who is your God?

The SHEPHERD | Danilo Q. Junco

This question is so crucial in the existence of any nation in general and our nation in particular, individual life and for our eternal destiny.

The word God has been resonating in our minds even when we were still toddlers and to the time when we have grown up and become seniors.
Through religions or churches, we have been bombarded about God much more to those who are religious but for those non-religious or cynics they have no regard to spiritual truths based on the Bible.

The stories about God, creations, among others are revealed in the first five books of the Bible written by Moses, a Hebrew or a Jew, namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy which are called “Torah” to the Jewish people and “Pentateuch” to others.

In ancient times, God has not been fully revealed Himself except to Abraham as He was described as a person talking to the latter while He was accompanied by His two angels whom He ordered to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim (Genesis 18:1-33; 19:1-29).

Then God the Son the Lord Jesus fully explained about God that there are three persons in the Godhead but only one God. God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. This is in consonant with the first sentence in Genesis 1 about the plurality of God but only one in substance and in the Hebrew language God is translated “Elohim” (Genesis 1:1-3; John 14:12-17; Matthew 28:18-20).

God told Moses plainly that He alone is God and there is no other beside Him who has created all things visible or invisible, physical or spiritual, earthly or heavenly and all power, throne, dominion, authority, among others only belong to Him.

He firmly told Moses that the Jewish people whom God covenanted as His people through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob or Israel that they should not intermarry with the people of the Gentile nations and adopt their religious, cultural and ways of life as these nations are worshiping idols or gods (Satan, demons and Satan’s cohorts), practicing witchcraft or occult and immoral ways of life.

Time and time again these instructions were violated by the Jewish people from the time of Moses to the time of the kings of Israel and Judah, the reason God had to judge them by allowing nations like Assyria, Babylon, and others to invade their nation.

When they returned after 70 years of captivity in Babylon, the Jewish people had never worshiped idols anymore but ultimately rejected Jesus Christ as their God, Messiah and King, the reason why their second temple was destroyed by a Roman General Titus with his troops in 70 A. D. killing at least 3 million Jews and the remnants were scattered all over the world for over 2000 years.

Solomon did not take heed God’s warning despite the fact that God gave him wisdom, riches, honor, dignity and rest from all Israel’s enemies (2 Chronicles 1: 1-11). He disobeyed God by having 700 wives and 300 concubines whose gods they brought to Israel where King Solomon also worshipped and served them.

What lessons can we learn from Israel and why has our nation suffered so much adversities through typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, rebellions, and all forms of wickedness countrywide?
Who is our God? Is Jesus Christ of the Bible or we have another Jesus portrayed as a “black man,” a “child,” a “woman” or money, power, career, etcetera?

This is the reason why our nation has encountered so many calamities and since we are living in the last days worse will be experienced by our people as a nation but if we repent and return to God of the Bible not in religion, we can escape the wrath and judgment of God.
