Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has announced that he plans to run once more for his current office in the upcoming 2022 elections.
When asked in a recent televised interview, Sotto spoke of how his administration has made significant progress but was hampered by Covid19.
He stated that in his two years as mayor, only nine months were unencumbered by the pandemic that has gripped the nation for over a year.
“… We had 9 months to clean things up. We’re building momentum steadily,” the young mayor said.
Since taking charge of Pasig City back in 2019, the number of regularized government employees doubled, and a total of PHP9 billion in taxes was collected.
Sotto was also praised as an anti-corruption champion by the United States (US) State Department, for his efforts to run the city under the banner of good and clean governance.
On his title from the US government, Sotto expressed hope that it would lead to a conversation on issues of corruption, and inspire people to weigh in.
As for rumors about a presidential bid, the 32-year-old politician has made clear that his focus will remain on Pasig City.
Vico Sotto put an end to the 27-year long reign of the Eusebio family in Pasig when he won the 2019 midterm polls.
