House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco has been designated as the caretaker of Cebu City’s first district, as per Rep. Raul del Mar’s wishes before his death.
Del Mar’s wishes were confirmed by his family and constituency that the honorable Velasco is designated as a caretaker of the 1st Legislative District of Cebu City,” said Camiguin Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo.
Supported by lawmakers Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, Buhay Party-list Rep. Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr., and Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar as deputy speakers.
Villar, however, refused to accept the offer as one of the deputy speakers.
Velasco was elected as representative of the lone district of Marinduque in 2016. In 2010 to 2013 he was also elected in the congressional derby.
A son of Marinduque Gov. Presbitero Velasco, Jr. who served then as an Associate of Justice of the Supreme Court from 2006 to 2018, Rep. Velasco is now the current House Speaker of the Lower House replacing the former House Speaker Allan Cayetano based on a “Gentleman’s Agreement.”
