Felix Jayson Magleo Vegella, 21, a vegetable vendor’s son from San Carlos City, Pangasinan, aced the March 2021 Medical Technologist Licensure Examination conducted by the Philippine Regulations Commission.

Vegella, who scored the highest rating of 91% out of 3,251 test-takers, earned the distinction of cum laude from Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation. Asked how he felt about the results, he said: “Mixed emotions, happiness plus fear.”

Vegella credits his mother, Yolanda, for her sacrifices. He said: “She is doing a great, decent job and I’m proud of her.”

Yolanda revealed that it was Vegella’s aunt who funded his education. “I was just a vegetable vendor using a cart in plying my trade. There were times I really had to run when policemen were lurking,” she shared.

Vegella plans to first become a teacher in his alma mater, in order to give back to the academic community to which he feels indebted.

The PRC conducts licensure examinations for civil engineers, chemical engineers, metallurgical engineers, marine engineers, dentists, dental hygienists, real estate appraisers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, naval architects, architects, interior designers and criminologists.
