CEBU CITY, Philippines – Vaccine rollout for seniors and individuals with comorbidities against Covid19 is on pause, as the vaccine rollout for senior citizens and persons with comorbidities has not been finalized, according to Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7).
This was due to the depletion or the lack of supply of AstraZeneca vaccines in the country which affected their plans to already administer free vaccines to the subgroups.
“We have problems with AstraZeneca supplies (and we are) waiting for FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) and HTAC (Health Technology Assessment Council) to review the Sinovac data on safety for seniors,” Loreche said.
Loreche said they are also waiting for further advisories from the national government on the need to send additional supply of Covid19 vaccines here.
“In the meantime, we are urging LGUs (local government units) to continue their master listing for individuals qualified under A2 and A3,” she added.
By mid-April the first dose of Covid19 will be inoculated to senior citizens in Central Visayas as the target date by the Health officials in Central Visayas.
