National Task Force chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr. has announced that the inoculation of the general public is eyed to begin as early as August or September, following the arrival of more vaccines.
He reported that in June, those in category A4 (frontliners in essential sectors) and A5 (indigent population) will be vaccinated.
Galvez also aims to vaccinate 2 million Filipinos this month.
Meanwhile, it was disclosed that 3,525,600 more jabs have been shipped to the Philippines as of last week, while a delivery of half a million doses of Sinovac have arrived in the country.
The Russian vaccine, Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute had arrived in the country on May 1, after a few days’ delay.
Five cities, namely Taguig, Muntinlupa, Manila, Makati and Paranaque, will be given an initial 3,000 doses for the jab’s rollout. The additional 485,000 doses will be delivered later this month.
Currently, the government has administered some 1.8 million vaccines.
