US Pinoys warned of Covid-related racism

Republika

A spike in the number of hate crimes against Asians in the United States has prompted the Philippine Embassy to urge Filipinos living in the country to practice “utmost caution.”

US media as of late had been reporting on thefts and assaults aimed at Asian-Americans in what are considered to be acts of pandemic-related racism.

In late January, the assault and murder of an 84-year-old San Francisco resident from Thailand was caught on video and went viral on social media.

The embassy said: “The Philippine embassy and consulates general in the US appreciate the swift action taken by a number of local authorities to apprehend perpetrators of these attacks.”

It further called on federal, state and local authorities to step up defense and protection for persons of Asian descent, which includes Filipinos.
