The Food and Drug Administration of the United States recently issued a warning on Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot Covid19 vaccine over a greater risk of an autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barre.
In a letter to the vaccine manufacturer, the FDA said that the chances of getting it are “low” but that those experiencing symptoms such as weakness, tingling sensations, difficulty walking or with facial movements after inoculation should seek medical help right away.
Of 100 preliminary reports of the disease, the regulatory body said that 95 needed to be hospitalized while one had died.
Although most of those affected recover, the disorder is very rare. Guillain-Barre causes the immune system to attack nerve fibers’ protective coating.
The news is trouble for Johnson & Johnson, whose jab was meant to vaccinate hard-to-reach areas.
