UP Visayas lad tops PMA Class 2021; 4 females in Top 10

The 25-year-old Cadet 1st Class Janrey Artus is named valedictorian of the Philippine Military Academy’s “Masaligan” (MAndirigmang SAmahan na Lakas at SandIGAN ng Bayan) Class of 2021.


Having graduated summa cum laude at the University of the Philippines-Visayas with a degree in BS Chemical Engineering, Artus plans to join the Philippine Navy.


He will be awarded the Presidential Saber and Ph Navy Saber at the PMA commencement exercises on Monday, May 10. He will also be honored with the Australian Defense Award, Spanish Armed Forces Award, Gen. Antonio Luna Award, Academic Group Award and the Joint US Military Assistance Group (Jusmag).


Second to him is salutatorian is Cadet 1st Class Daryl Brix Colita, who is set to receive the Vice Presidential Saber, the Philippine Army Saber, Australian Defense Saber and Army Professional Plaque.


This year’s Masaligan class is composed of 138 males and 26 females, four of whom are PMA class toppers.


Ranking third is 23-year-old Cadet 1st Class Valerie Mae Vicente Dicang, who took up radiologic technology prior to joining the PMA.


The other female top ten members include cum laude Cadet 1st Class Christine Joyce Andog (rank 5), Cadet 1st Class Pamela Avila Calleja (rank 8) and cum laude Cadet 1st Class Shirley Fatima Lim (rank 10).


Of this batch, 84 cadets will join the army, 46 will go to the navy and 36 are joining the air force.
