Stage icon and philanthropist Celia Diaz Laurel passed away on Monday at 93 years old.
The former wife of vice president Salvador Laurel, she is survived by her six children, two of whom are themselves showbiz personalities Victor and Iwi Laurel.
Apart from theater acting career, she was a painter, arts advocate and writer. Her last birthday was celebrated with a new book she authored entitled “My Lives Behind the Proscenium.”
She was also a set and costume designer for Repertory Philippines.
Laurel hails from Talisay, Negros Occidental and was born in 1928 to parents Anselmo Sison Diaz and Concepcion Gonzalez Franco.
