Pres. Rody Duterte recently extended the state of calamity in the country for a year, effective September 13 to September 12, 2021.
The renewal enables officials to utilize emergency funds anywhere in the country and charge the police and military with maintaining law and order.
Duterte, in a televised address to the public, restated that the Philippines was only waiting for vaccine which was unlikely to arrive until the second quarter of next year.
A state of calamity was first imposed last March when the virus hit the country in earnest.
As of writing, the country has reported nearly 300,000 confirmed Covid19 cases, with over 5,000 deaths.
