Start the New Year with God thru Christ

The SHEPHERD | Danilo Q. Junco

Barely several days will come specifically on Saturday at 12 midnight, Jan. 1, 2022, is the celebration of the New Year based on Gregorian Calendar which many nations including the Philippines have observed and followed with a big bang through firecrackers and pyrotechnics as an expression of happiness that the people have reached another milestone or year of their lives despite that others are injured by using powerful fireworks or pyrotechnics.

This is a tradition handed down by Filipino forefathers from one generation to another and even today to greet the New Year in revelry for thanking God and for others for making resolutions to change their seemingly bad tempers or characters into good ones but after several months they are just the same and nothing has been changed.

The Hebrew Scripture or Bible has laid a principle that to begin a New Year should start with God and this God has revealed through Jesus Christ His only begotten Son. God in creation started with the statement “In the beginning God…” (Genesis 1:1) as everything in creation has begun in Him though He is not covered with time, distance, and space as He is eternal yet in creations God has already put time and space, the reason that the day occurs when He creates the light on the first day and all creations have finished on the sixth day and on the seventh day, He has rested or enjoyed that all His creations are very good (Genesis 1:1-31).

God knows from the beginning to end what will be the outcome of all His creations when Lucifer, His archangel rebel against Him, who turns out as Satan or devil along with one third of the angels under him, and for tempting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden as God’s regent here on earth, and the outcome of sin which is death or separation from God, including the effects of sin or rebellion like sickness, poverty, lawlessness, wars, among others. All these things, God knows them all and even today for the recent strong Typhoon Odette and the two years’ infection of the coronavirus disease or covid-19 killing more than 5 million people all over the world and infecting close to 300 million folks (Isaiah 46:10).

God is not surprised at what will be the end of this world as He knows it before it will happen and controls all the events of planet earth along with the universe. We cannot know God not unless He sent His only begotten Son the Lord Jesus Christ (Messiah) here on earth of His first advent to become man or as a “Suffering Servant” as described by Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 53:1-12.

The Hebrew Bible has prophesied Jesus the Messiah’s first advent, His birth, life, ministry, death, resurrection and ascension to Heaven to save humanity from the grip of sin, from Satan’s power and from condemnation to Hell.

Jesus said that He is the “Alpha and Omega” the words in Greek as the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8). Jesus the Messiah or Anointed by God as King of kings and Lord of lords of the universe along with planet earth. In Jesus’ second advent or second coming, He is already the “Lion of Judah” or the Almighty King and Judge to render judgment to humanity and all His enemies will be destroyed and avenge to all who persecuted and killed His people (Revelation 5: 1-5; 19:1-21; 20:1-15).

The natural disasters like typhoons, volcanic eruptions, floods, tsunamis, terrorists, lawlessness or violence, wars, pestilences or plagues, and so forth, will be worse and worst as the Lord Jesus second advent draws nearer.

So, we have to start our New Year by placing our faith in Jesus of Israel and the Bible that through His atoning death is enough for us to be saved if we repent of our sins and receive Him as our Lord and Savior. Prior to God’s wrath to be released during the Great Tribulation, the seven years predicted by Prophet Daniel in Daniel 9:24-27 about the emergence of the anti-Christ or anti-Messiah, God’s people will be raptured to escape this 3 ½ years out from the 7 years of peace pact of 10 nations with Israel through persecution and execution against the Jewish people and those remaining believers at that time (Matthew 24:15-22).
