Spiritual Warfare (Part 1)

The SHEPHERD | Danilo Q. Junco

This topic is seldom to be preached or taught in the churches or in any Christian gathering perhaps out of ignorance or fear against Satan and all his cohorts in the heavenly realm or here on earth.

Once a servant of God or let say workers of God will do a lot of things to jeopardize the kingdom of darkness which Satan is the head for sure he will counter attack against the one or more who have worked hard to bring the message of the Kingdom of God throughout the world.

Apostle Paul had experienced this of his three missionary journeys in the Middle East, Asia Minor and even part of Europe in Macedonia and Spain.

Every place which he and his co-workers went, they experienced riot as Satan sent his angel to incite the people and the leaders of the land to buffet Paul and his companions to put hindrances and block the works of God.

Though this topic is so risky, the impression I got is that the people of God will be informed, known and equipped as the battle is raging on, especially that we are living in the last days. It is so intense, so extensive as it covers not only the sphere of the earth but also to the whole universe. In the Bible, God’s people are portrayed as the body, assembly, workmanship, family, temple, bride and the last as an army.

God has called His people to be His army which will engage in spiritual warfare against Satan and all his cohorts of his kingdom in the heavenly realm and here on earth as described by Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:10-18.Whether we like it or not for as long as we are genuine disciples or people of God we are enlisted on this spiritual battle and this is the reason why God has instructed us to use these spiritual weapons for our own good as Paul mentioned it in Ephesians 6 that we will emerge victorious instead of being a casualty.

We have to know Satan’s kingdom and how it operates on earth, its methodology, tactics, and tricks as revealed in the Bible.

First and foremost, we have to establish the fact that there are two spiritual kingdoms fighting with each other which are the kingdom of darkness against the Kingdom of Light or the Kingdom of God.

Jesus in His ministry told the religious leaders and the people in Israel about these two kingdoms were at loggerheads of each other when He healed the demon-possessed, blind and mute man. Someone brought this man to Jesus and He healed him.

The multitude of the community who witnessed the miracle performed by Jesus was amazed and asked the question “could Jesus be the Son of David?”
The Pharisees or religious leaders, however, accused Jesus that He healed the man because He was in league with Beelzebub, ruler of demons or lord of flies as insects or flies are sometimes associated with demonic spirits.

Jesus countered their accusation saying “Every kingdom divided itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then does his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you,”Matthew12:22-28.Based on this passage of the Bible, Jesus pointed out the two spiritual kingdoms, Satan’s kingdom and God’s Kingdom. If we are on God’s side definitely we are at war against the kingdom of Satan. Whether we like it or not, we are at war against Satan.
