Senate President Tito Sotto is currently the front-running candidate in the vice presidential race for May 2022, according to polling outfit Pulse Asia.
The Pulse Asia survey done Sept. 6 to 11 found that Sotto, whose running mate for president is Senator Panfilo Lacson, was outpacing his main rival President Duterte by a big margin.
It showed that 25 percent of the respondents preferred Sotto over Mr. Duterte, the official vice presidential candidate of the PDP-Laban (Cusi wing).
Incidentally, Pulse Asia is the same pollster which said last October 2020 that Duterte’s approval rating was at a record high of 91 percent
But Malacanang officials shrugged off the survey results, insisting Mr. Duterte is still the candidate to beat in 2022.
Sotto said he was “humbled and gratified” by the survey findings. He thanked God and the Filipinos for the trust and confidence placed on him and his dream of further serving the public beyond the halls of the Senate.
