One of the country’s top epidemiologists has raised the urgent alarm that Sinovac vaccine recipients – particularly health frontliners, senior citizens and vulnerable persons – risk death unless they receive booster shots.
Dr. Rontgene Solante, a member of the government’s Covid19 Vaccine Expert Panel, said it is imperative that health workers and other vulnerable individuals, who had previously received Sinovac jabs when the national vaccination program was rolled out in March 2021, be immediately administered boosters (or third shots) as they risk serious infection, or even death.
Solante singled out the China-made vaccine because, per existing data, the efficacy of Sinovac wanes after only 6 to 8 months.
In a nationally televised interview last week, Solante clarified that those persons who were dosed with Sinovac in March or April 2021 should be given boosters soonest since they are at risk of contracting severe or critical Covid19 during the November-December time frame.
“When we start counting, those vulnerable at this point in time are those who were vaccinated beginning March or April, and these are the health workers,” Solante was quoted in published reports as saying.
