The nation has lost two senior statesmen in former Senators John Henry Osmena, 86, and Vic Ziga, 75, who were colleagues from 1987-1992 during the 8th Congress, during the term of the late President Cory Aquino.
Osmena, who is the grandson of the late President Sergio Osmena Sr., was among the Liberal Party’s senatorial bets who survived the Plaza Miranda bombing in 1971.
He served in the Philippine Senate for three terms.
Sen. Ziga, who was the son of the late Sen. Tecla San Andres Ziga, was one of the so-called Magnificent 12 who voted against the extension of the 1991 RP-US Bases Treaty.
He is widely-regarded as the author of the Senior Citizens Law and the Build, Operate and Transfer Law.
