Amidst speculation that President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio will be running for a national post, the incumbent Davao City mayor announced that she will not be seeking the presidency but instead reelection in her current position.
Her decision came after her father accepted PDP-Laban party’s endorsement as their vice presidential candidate.
According to her spokesperson, Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco of Liloan, Cebu, father and daughter have agreed that only one of them would run in the national elections.
“Since she is not running for a national position, then the local position is open for her and that is the position that she will be running for,” she said.
However, whether or not Duterte-Carpio would reconsider should her father back out, remains to be seen. For her part, Frasco is hopeful that Carpio will.
