The Sandiganbayan has reportedly suspended Davao del Sur Vice Governor Marc Douglas Cagas IV over alleged pork barrel issues while he was still a congressman.
In a Dec. 3 resolution, the anti-graft court ordered the Department of Interior of Local Government to immediately suspend Cagas in connection with the alleged misuse of P13 million in Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF), in line with the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act or R.A. 3019.
According to published reports, Cagas is facing two cases filed by the Ombudsman earlier involving the alleged anomalous utilization of his PDAF when he was representative of the first district of Davao del Sur.
In this instance, the Court said the information filed against Cagas were sufficient in form and substance. And under the law, an incumbent public official should be suspended if he is charged with a valid offense involving public funds as “he may frustrate his prosecution.”
