San Juan City claims herd immunity

Republika

Officials of Metro Manila’s second least populated local government unit are claiming ‘herd immunity’ against the dreaded coronavirus disease which has ravaged the Philippines in literally all aspects these past 16 months.

In a statement to media, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said around 54,000 residents have gotten at least one dose of the Covid19 vaccine, equivalent to 63 percent of the targeted 85,000 for herd immunity.

“As long as we received the necessary vaccine replenishments from the national government, the city can realistically achieve herd immunity by the end of August 2021 (or in two months’ time),” Zamora was quoted in reports as saying.

According to published figures, San Juan City has a population of some 122,000 persons, which is the second-smallest in the National Capital Region (NCR).
