SAN JOSE, NORTHERN SAMAR – Here’s one for the books.
An officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was reportedly killed by a game bird during a raid on a cockpit here last week.
The fatality was identified as P/Lt. Christian Bolok, the police chief of this town.
Reports said Bolok bled to death when his left thigh was accidentally struck by the razor-sharp blade (or tare) attached to the leg of the rooster he was trying to collect as evidence against the operator of the illegal gathering.
Cockfighting has long been a popular pastime in the country, but it has been banned during the quarantine lockdown to prevent large crowds and curb the spread of the virus.
