Billionaire casino owner and ports operator Ricky Razon is aiming to hasten delivery of the prized Moderna anti-Covid19 vaccine, thereby adding impetus to the efforts of well-heeled friends in the private sector to get the economy back in running condition.
Reports say that Razon, who is one of the richest men in the country today, is in advanced talks with Massachusetts-based Moderna pharmaceuticals to fast-track the arrival of the vaccine brand in the country.
The Philippines is said to have been given an allocation of 20 million doses. As it is administered in two doses, it is good for 10 million patients.
Moderna is highly sought after by Western countries due to its 94-percent efficacy rate, which is second only to Pfizer’s 95 percent.
But it is relatively expensive, costing about P1,250 per dose or P2,500 for only one patient.
Safety of the Moderna vaccine is more or less assured as it was the second after Pfizer to have been issued emergency use authorization by the US Food and Drugs Administration, and approval by the U.K.’s medical regulator.
PH Ambassador to the US Babes Romualdez said negotiations are ongoing with Moderna to get the best price of the country.
