Rappler’s Ressa wins Nobel Peace Prize

Republika

News outfit Rappler’s CEO Maria Ressa was one among two awardees of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize this year, on October 8, for pushing journalism’s vital role in the world today.

The other awardee was Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov.

They were conferred the honor “for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.”

In the past, Ressa has been on the receiving end of attacks for Rappler’s alleged criticism of the current administration, as well as their efforts against fake news and its proliferation.
