Quezon City Hall is for now suspending stall rent payments of pork and chicken vendors in all public markets in the wake of the crisis in the National Capital Region (NCR) caused by the price control order of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Mayor Joy Belmonte said she had ordered the temporary halt to rent collections to help vendors throughout QC cope in light of their disrupted means of livelihood.
Several pork and chicken vendors in Metro Manila had gone on “holiday” to protest the price cap imposed by the DA supposedly to control the surge in prices of these foodstuffs in recent days.
The vendors said they could not possibly open for business as they would only end up losing money since they could not sell within the price ceiling, citing the cost of stocks from wholesalers.
The DA is limiting the prices of chicken to P160/kilo, pork liempo to P300/kilo and pork kasim to P270/kilo. DALISAY NOLASCO
