Malaybalay City – A Catholic priest was shot to death here last week by unidentified assailants, reports said.
The lifeless body of Fr. Rene Regalado, 42, was found sprawled in front of the gate of the Carmelite Monastery in Barangay Patpat riddled with bullets, near his service vehicle.
Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the gruesome murder of Regalado who was connected with the St. John XXIII College Seminary.
Fr. Virgilio Delfin, spokperson of the Malaybalay diocese, said that he was told Regalado had been receiving death threats recently.
But Malaybalay police chief Lt. Col. Jerry Tambis told mediamen a rape case was filed against Regalado recently in Lala, Lanao del Norte in October 2020, although he was allowed to post bail due to certain infirmities in the complaint.
Fr. Regalado’s wake will be held at the San Isidro Labrador Cathedral. He will be buried in the Catholic cemetery in Malaybalay.
