There is a new cardinal in the house!
Pope Francis recently appointed Capiz Archbishop Jose Advincula, 68, to the ranks of the Vatican’s College of Cardinals.
With his appointment, Advincula joins Luis Antonio Tagle as the Philippines’ second active cardinal.
Advincula, who was named archbishop of Capiz in 2011, becomes only the Philippines’ ninth cardinal after Tagle, Orlando Quevedo, Gaudencio Rosales, Jose Sanchez, Ricardo Vidal, Jaime Sin, Julio Rosales and Rufino Santos.
Rosales and Quevedo had earlier retired when they reached the age of 80.
The Pope said Advincula, together with 12 other cardinals-elect, will be formally elevated to the post on Nov. 28.
