Filipina Johanne Siy, head chef of Singaporean restaurant Lolla, is Female Chef of the Year, a recognition granted by the Singapore’s World Gourmet Awards (WGA) 2021.
According to the annual awards body website, the honor is given to a female head chef who is hands-on in daily kitchen operations and has extensive experience in the culinary arts. Candidates are assessed based on their professionalism, creativity, consistency, leadership as well as commitment to quality.
Lolla, located in Ann Siang Hill, serves “inspired yet simple small-plates combining the finest ingredients and seasonal produce with the influences of the Mediterranean.” Siy’s cooking style is reportedly a fusion between European fine dining and Mediterranean influences, thanks to her experience in Scandinavian farms and kitchens.
She studied at the Culinary Institute of America and at Le Bernardin under the tutelage of French chef and TV figure Eric Ripert as well as restaurateur Chef Daniel Boulud. Currently, she is studying under Chef Andre Chiang of Singapore’s Andre, where she worked for four years.
The World Gourmet Summit, which began in 2001, recognizes Singapore’s top hospitality and restaurant personalities.
