On October 16 the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) revealed to the public the first in a new lineup of commemorative stamps under its “Salamat – Pagpupugay sa mga Alamat” collection, to honor basketball legend Robert “Sonny” Jaworski.
As part of the agency’s 75th anniversary, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) superstar will be featured on stamps and souvenir sheets from PhilPost.
The athlete of honor expressed his gratitude through his son Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., at the ceremony, stating that he never pictured himself being given such recognition.
“To be included in the list of people who have been chosen by your esteemed corporation, to be considered legends of our time, let me express my profound gratitude for this great, great honor,” the PBA legend’s son read.
Among those in attendance were PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, and former teammate as well as PBA legend, Mon Fernandez.
His former team Ginebra’s current lineup was also in attendance as their esteemed predecessor was celebrated, including LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, Stanley Pringle, Joe DeVance, Scottie Thompson, and Mark Caguioa.
The commemorative stamps are the first of a three-part series to be put out by PhilPost, dedicated to honoring Filipinos that have made exceptional achievements and contributions locally, and abroad.
