Pharmally execs’ escape plan up in smoke

Republika

In an attempt to flee the country, Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation sibling-heads Twinkle and Mohit Dargani were arrested by Senate security personnel at the Davao City Airport on November 14.

Pharmally is currently embroiled in a Senate blue ribbon committee investigation after an alleged anomalous transfer of more than P42 billion from the national government’s Covid19 pandemic response funds from the Department of Health (DOH) to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) took place.

The DBM then brokered medical supply contracts for face masks, shields, personal protective equipment (PPE), and testing kits for Covid19, with the corporation.

This granted Pharmally an accumulated total of P11.7 billion in supply contracts, despite only having had a paid-up capital amounting to P625,000.
As the investigation progressed, the Dargani siblings were eventually cited in contempt and detained at the Senate for non-cooperation such as withholding documents that solons had ordered subpoenaed.

Later on, possibly to avoid further questioning and criminal charges, the siblings went into hiding, only to resurface and be caught at Davao, on a plane chartered for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to Senate sergeant-at-arms Rene Samonte.

Following the arrest, the pair were brought back into the custody of the Senate.
