The country’s anti-Covid task force is in advanced talks with several vaccine manufacturers to acquire some 148 million doses in 2021.
This should be good for at least 74 million Filipinos, if they so desire.
Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the vaccine czar, said the supply is being finalized with pharmaceutical firms Pfizer, Gamaleya, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Moderna and Novavax.
However, Galvez cautioned that the purchase would depend of the available supply, as 80 percent had already been cornered by rich nations like the US, UK, European Union, etc.
It must be stressed that this does not include the procurement initiatives of various local government units that have earmarked huge amounts of funds for the purpose, such as Makati City, Quezon City, Taguig City, Pasig City, Valenzuela City, Caloocan City, Manila, Mandaluyong City, San Juan City and Quezon Province.
