Unbeknownst to many, pet insurance in the Philippines actually exists and has since 2019.
This is of fresh interest, especially for new and veteran pet owners amid the surge in animal adoption during the pandemic.
According to the Insurance Commission (IC), five insurers offer this insurance tailored for beloved furry family members: Malayan Insurance Co. Inc., Mercantile Insurance Co. Inc., PGA Sompo Insurance Corp., Pioneer Insurance and Surety Corp., and Standard Insurance Co. Inc.
Coverage includes medical reimbursement in the event of a pet’s illness or injury as well as a cruciate ligament injury benefit, with a maximum reimbursement limit per leg.
Malayan’s insurance, based on the brochure data, provides three different plans with yearly premiums for as low as P2,800 and capped at as around P5,400. Taxes and other charges are included.
