The government will receive from the Chinese Embassy within the month the list of bidders for the first phase of the Mindanao Railway project.
The first phase of the railway will run from Tagum City in Davao del Norte and Digos City in Davao del Sur passing through Davao City.
It will have eight stations located in Tagum, Carmen, Panabo, Sta. Cruz, Digos and three in Davao City.
According to Transportation assistant secretary Eymard Eje, who is in charge of the Mindanao cluster project implementation and special concerns, only Chinese contractors will be nominated by the Chinese government to join the bidding for the project.
Eje said that up for bidding are two contract packages for project monitoring consultancy and for design-and-build. The project, financed through an official development assistance loan package from China, is one of the administration’s priority infrastructure projects.
The Mindanao Railway Project was originally scheduled to commence in January last year but due to right of way issues, the project implementation has been delayed.
However, since the railway realignment has been resolved, the project can now proceed, said Eje.
He also added that the DOTr will immediately proceed with the bidding as soon as they received the short list of bidders from the Chinese Embassy.
