Penniless father burns dead son’s body

Republika

Due to destitute conditions, traditional burial practices were forgone by a penniless father whose son died of an undetermined illness, by burning the dead son’s body, in Butuan City.

The deceased’s body was identified as Romy Casipong, 24, torched by his father Rolando, 63.

Col. Cabnilo Fuentes, Butuan City Police Office Director said that the elder Casipong claimed that they don’t have money to hold a wake and to buy a casket which prompted him to burn the dead son’s remains instead.

According to a report, the young Casipong died at 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 after a lingering, undisclosed illness.

“On the same date at about 4 a.m. the suspect burned the body of the victim for the reason that he has no money for the burial of his son,” the report said.

The four siblings of the victim agreed that they would not file complaints against their father, and execute an affidavit of lack of interest regarding the case.
