The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is complaining that unchecked operations of online sabong (cockfighting) is impacting negatively on its lotto sales.
PCSO general manager Royeca Garma said this is because the concerned authorities aren’t doing anything much to curb the illegal activities of online sabong operators.
She said the online sabong phenomenon has flourished during this lockdown period due to the strictures imposed by the IATF on traditional sabong activities.
PCSO director Sandra Cam said the agency has not yet fully recovered from the effects of the months-long lockdown imposed by Malacanang to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which is why there is this appeal for an honest-to-goodness crackdown on illegal online sabong.
PCSO’s lotto revenues reportedly suffered a 57-percent drop from P44 billion in 2019 to only P18.6 billion in 2020.
