PUERTO PRINCESA CITY– Lawyer Eric Jay Magcamit, 35, was ambushed and killed in broad daylight by unidentified gunmen last week.
Police reports said the victim was going to attend a court hearing in Quezon, Palawan when the motorcycling-riding assailants stopped his Innova along the highway and shot him pointblank as he got out.
Magcamit was hit in the right cheek and left leg, and died instantly.
Based on the vehicle’s dashcam footage, two men were responsible for Magcamit’s death.
According to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), over 50 lawyers have been murdered since July 2016.
In 2020 alone, records show seven lawyers had been killed, the latest being Manila Judge Ma. Teresa Abadilla, daughter of the late Lt. Col. Rolly Abadilla of the PC Metrocom.
