Pacquiao wants government to prioritize seniors

Republika

According to presidential candidate and Senator Manny Pacquiao, senior citizens must be more of a priority to the government.

“The government must honor the country’s elderly population,” he said, “by ensuring that they are well taken care of in their twilight years.”

They should be given special priority, he added, through free medical checkups, free hospitalization and a subsidy for maintenance medicine.

This is on top of the existing perks such as discounts.

Pacquiao says these can be funded from the billions of funds his no-nonsense campaign against corruption will save. As far as he can estimate, Filipino taxpayers are apparently losing at least P1 trillion yearly to corrupt practices.

“We have to shower our senior citizens with all the love that we can give.

They have done their part as citizens of the republic and as parents to their children, so it’s time that we honor them by making life more comfortable for them.”

Asked if he would let his mother Dionisia to join him in sorties given her own popularity, especially amongst senior citizens, Pacquiao said the danger posed by COVID-19 makes it a bleak notion.

“I have only one mama, so I don’t want her going out just like that,” he said in Tagalog. “Maybe she can join in nearby places.”

He also called on all Filipinos to “show love” for senior citizens since “they are the reason why we’re here.”
