Senator Manny Pacquiao has gone absolutely ballistic over an “illegal” resolution circulated during a recent meeting of the PDP-Laban party urging President Duterte (who isn’t allowed by the Constitution to seek reelection) to run for vice president in the 2022 polls.
Said meeting was supposedly held at the insistence of Energy Sec. Al Cusi, the party’s vice chairman.
The PDP-Laban chairman is Mr. Duterte.
Pacquiao, who is the group’s acting president, was reported to have remarked that Cusi should not divide the PDP-Laban “for your own interest.”
He was apparently irked by reports that Cusi had been prematurely going around the archipelago to convince partymates into backing a move to get Duterte to seek the vice presidency.
Cusi’s allies said all this is being done in the interest of preserving “political continuity” considering the undiminished popularity of Mr. Duterte.
However, not a few political analysts have said that political infighting in the ruling PDP-Laban party would only serve the interests of the opposition.
