Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, 42, is regarded as a “heavy underdog” in his upcoming fight on August 21 in Las Vegas against unbeaten IBF and WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
Pacquiao, whose last fight was in July 2019 when he outpointed Keith Thurman for the WBA super welterweight belt, reportedly said this will be his swan song.
Spence is the betting favorite as he is 11 years younger than Pacquiao, is four inches taller and has five-inch reach advantage.
Narvacan Mayor Chavit Singson, Pacquiao’s longtime partner, said the Las Vegas bookmakers will pay $350 for a $100-wager on the eight-division champ. On the other hand, he said the payoff for a $450-bet on a Spence victory is only $100.
But he said the odds will surely change as the fight nears.
“Sobrang dehado si Manny, pero ibibigay niya ang lahat para manalo kaya maganda ang laban,” Singson added.
Popular sentiment, however, is overwhelmingly on the side of Pacquiao who is a veteran of 71 fights in over four decades.
