Republika

CEBU CITY – The groundbreaking of the multi-million redevelopment of the Carbon Public Market pushed through on Wednesday, March 24 after two-time attempts but postponed due to complaints aired by the market vendors and signaled the start of the construction of the P5.5 billion structure in Phase 1 by the Megawide Construction Corporation.

The vendors’ opposition against the Megawide firm that the firm will increase their rental fees but it was clarified by the Cebu2World chairman Louie Ferrer that there would be no increase on the next three years due to the pandemic and subsequently if there would be an increase it would be incremental.

“Vendors and regular stall holders should not worry about rates because they will be based on the Market Code, approved by the Council and more importantly, upon exhaustive consultation with the Public Market Oversight Committee. As to ambulant vendors, the current “arkabala” system will still be followed,” Ferrer said.
