A P1-million bounty was put up for the killers of P/Brig. Gen. Wesley Barayuga (ret.) who was a senior official of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), by his mistahs in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
A spokesman of the PMA “Matikas” Class ‘83 said the reward money is being offered as the Philippine National Police (PNP) “appears to be sitting” on the case.
The money can be claimed at the PMA Alumni Center in Camp Aguinaldo, when the lead given results in the identification and arrest of the culprit/s.
Barayuga, who at the time was the PCSO corporate secretary, was ambushed last July 30 by unidentified gunmen along a busy street just after he left his office in Mandaluyong City.
Police said the killing may have been work-related.
PCSO sources said Barayuga was a “do-gooder” who could have made lots of enemies as he was actively involved in cleansing the roster of small-town-lottery franchises which were created to replace jueteng in Central Luzon and masiao in the Visayas and Mindanao.
