Camp Olivas, Pampanga – Some P1.3 billion in fake cigarettes, raw materials and assorted cigarette-making equipment were seized last week in two related operations conducted by the provincial police, reports said.
The first raid was conducted at a warehouse in the Department of Science and Technology Compound (DOST) in Mabalacat City which yielded some P300 million worth of smuggled and counterfeit cigarettes bearing Chinese brands such as “Yunyan,” “Shuangxi,” “Chunghua,” “Nanjing,” and “Gold Line.”
Police arrested five men who were found inside the warehouse, but could not account for the real owner of the criminal enterprise.
Based on information from the five men, a follow-up raid was conducted in another warehouse in nearby San Simon town where two cigarette-making machines, 12 cigarette-packing machines, BIR cigarette stamps and raw materials worth about P1 billion were confiscated.
