A broad group of ex-government officials and members of civil society highly critical of the Duterte administration have linked up to form a “single, united democratic slate” for the 2022 presidential election.
The new opposition bloc – named “1Sambayan” – is spearheaded by former Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, former Foreign Affairs Sec. Albert del Rosario and retired Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
During the formal launching of 1Sambayan last week, Carpio said that their main objective is to “bring good governance to the Filipino people” in reaction to the unabated corruption, unchecked human rights abuses, the overarching fealty to China and failed pandemic response of the current administration.
Carpio said Filipinos should not endure another six years of government mismanagement by electing the anointed successor of President Duterte.
