Laban Konsyumer, Inc., a consumer group, said that seniors and persons with disability should be allowed to use their discounts and benefits in e-commerce.
The group recently wrote to the Department of Social Welfare and Development to inquire about implementing guidelines for this.
President Vic Dimagiba in the letter said that many seniors and PWDs make online purchases without being able to make use of their benefits; in most cases, merchants do not know how to grant discounts.
This differes from delivery orders via telephone, where they are granted discounts upon submission of the cardholder’s identification number.
They further added that “clear and easy implementation” would be best given the current circumstances wherein seniors and PWDs are heavily reliant on online purchases.
