1 in 5 business establishments have been found not compliant with health and safety protocols in the workplace.
Labor and employment undersecretary Benjo Benavidez reported that according to their department’s inspections last year, only around 80% of some 72,000 establishments followed occupational health and safety standards.
Instead of penalties, DOLE provided these businesses with technical assistance in an effort to meet the standards. However, those who continue to violate protocols will be sanctioned.
Benavidez also encouraged employees to report their companies if they do not comply with the safety measures.
This, in light of the trade and industry department’s support of the decision to widen the age group allowed out—including even children as young as 10 years old—to spur the economy’s recovery.
“It’s not bad to consider widening the age segment allowed to go out,” declared DTI chief Ramon Lopez. “But it has to be done gradually. At present, 15 years old is the youngest. We can expand this to 10 years old.”
The trade department is also helping businesses procure Covid19 vaccines by collecting orders to be submitted to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr.
