Over a year after Taal volcano’s phreatomagmatic eruption, its P42 billion rehabilitation plan remains severely underfunded, with 86% or P36.1 billion still needed.
National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Calabarzon Assistant Director Gina Gacusan explained at the house committee on Southern Tagalog development hearing, that with the pandemic ongoing, funds are low and as a consequence, prioritized elsewhere and for Covid19.
There are more than 1,000 projects stuck under the status of fund sourcing, with NEDA originally aiming to have them implemented by 2025.
For projects that have been completed, the total amounts to only 88 projects or 1%, totalling P420 million. Another 1% has been funded but has not begun yet.
