Zoom, the video-messaging tool instrumental in many a work call and virtual get-together this year, announced that they would be doing away with the 40-minute limit for free users during the holidays.
This includes Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (for Christians); the last day of Hanukkah (for Jews); and Kwanzaa (for African-Americans); as well as New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Likewise, Google Meet announced that they were also relaxing their 60-minute cap for free subscribers until March.
Meanwhile, other video call apps such as Microsoft Teams and Cisco’s Webex have not declared a cap removal on their meeting lengths.
Covid19 cases around the world have been spiking due to the virus’ second wave, forcing many to remain home and connect with family and friends via the internet.
