Malacanang has named Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo to head the Supreme Court of the Philippines, replacing Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta who opted for early retirement.
According to a Palace source, President Duterte signed the appointment papers of Gesmusdo as the 27th Chief Justice of the high tribunal. His term will last until November 2026.
Gesmundo, who was placed in the SC last August 2017, is the fourth chief justice installed by Mr. Duterte.
Before joining the SC, Gesmundo served as associate justice in the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court.
