The multi-agency National Human Settlements Board (NHSB) has approved the 20-year roadmap presented by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
Officially called the National Housing and Urban Development Sector Plan (NHUDSP), the roadmap consolidates both ongoing and proposed strategies, plans and programs of the DHSUD, key shelter agencies (KSAs) and other stakeholders. The plan envisions a “Sustainable Housing and Well-planned Community for all Filipinos.”
Under NHSB Resolution 2021-01, the DHSUD was mandated to develop and adopt such a plan to “immediately address the provision of adequate and affordable housing to all Filipinos.” The NHUDSP is also aligned with the national government’s goals under the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 and AmBisyon Natin 2040, both representing the long-term vision and aspirations of the Filipino people.
The 20-year plan envisions better, greener and smarter human settlements and urban systems in the Philippines with banner projects aiming to create spaces, transform spaces into communities, make communities accessible and affordable, and empower communities.
It also focuses on the critical groups who are in immediate need of housing such as informal settler families.
The proposed roadmap is seen to be implemented in the form of short, medium- and long-term programs and projects, and covers a 20-year period aligned with the Ambisyon Natin 2040.
“Our strategic plan will serve as the blueprint of the government’s long-term program aimed not only in addressing the housing gap with affordable, decent and sustainable communities but more importantly, it sets the standards in human settlements and urban development,” DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario said.
He added that this roadmap will further boost the Duterte administration’s flagship BALAI (Building Adequate, Livable, Affordable and Inclusive) Filipino Housing Program and institutionalizes effective shelter delivery strategies,” he added.
Del Rosario congratulated the Planning Service and expressed his confidence that the NHUDSP will ignite and jumpstart the country’s widespread development as it hinges upon both urban and rural growth.
