Malacañang last week allowed motorcycle taxi services like Angkas to resume their operations in order to boost mass transport capacity and help lift the economy up from the ground.
Palace spokesperson Harry Roque announced that the House of Representatives had also approved an extension of the motorcycle taxi pilot study, which initially ended last April.
He added that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board would soon issue guidelines on safety protocols for riding mototaxis.
In a statement, Angkas said that their resumption would “bridge the gap”, providing transportation options to 60% of the workforce, while the current capacity only serves 40%.
Roque also reported that Cabinet officials previously gave the go-ahead for the one-seat-apart distance measurement in public transport vehicles.
