More LGUs make deals for vaccines

Republika

More local governments are about to or have already closed deals to directly purchase Covid19 vaccines from pharmaceutical companies.

After Davao City mayor Sara Duterte earlier announced that AstraZeneca has committed to selling the city government vaccines while still looking for other suppliers, other cities have followed suit.

Baguio, Vigan, Dagupan, Antipolo, Iloilo City, the province of Iloilo, Bacolod and Ormoc have entered into a tripartite deal with the government—the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force—and vaccine producers.

Other local governments that have set aside funds for vaccine procurement include Puerto Princesa (Palawan), Ilocos Norte, Olongapo, Gapan, Palayan City, Cabanatuan, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, Cebu, Borongan, Pagadian, Dipolog, Naga and Camarines Sur.

Most of these LGUs are in negotiations with UK manufacturer AstraZeneca due to its low cost.
